Art and engineering will converge at The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) next week for an exclusive exhibition of fine art produced by Loughborough University students.
More than 45 pieces of work will be on display at the Ansty Park campus in Coventry, curated by fine art students Emily Baker, aged 23, and Rebecca Wymant, aged 21, who are on placement at the MTC.
The duo have collaborated with their fellow fine art students across all three years of the degree to stage the Perpetual Flux exhibition, which will be open to the public on Thursday 8 December and Friday 9 December in the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre.
Baker and Wymant chose the name to reflect the innovation and technologies at the MTC and their art peers.
Wymant said: “We have been looking at motion and things constantly moving and progressing and we felt that it fitted with the innovation and changes that happen at the MTC and also resonated with the art students at Loughborough as they are a new generation of forward thinkers.
“We thought Perpetual Flux had a nice ring to it and gave that idea of something constantly moving and changing for the better.”
The exhibition will feature a range of artwork including paintings, photography, sculpture and jewellery and further strengthens the partnership between the MTC and Loughborough University, which is a founding academic partner of the MTC.
Baker and Wymant are excited at the opening of their first exhibition, in which they will display two pieces of their work. Baker will showcase a previous piece of art entitled ‘Escape from the Jungle’ as well as a new piece focusing on the Spitfire, Lancaster bomber and Tiger Moth planes, which reflects the MTCs involvement in the aerospace industry. Wymant will focus on photography and digital art.
“As a fine art student it is really difficult to showcase your work outside of university, so to have the opportunity to use a venue like the MTC to show our work is incredible,” said Baker.
“The exhibition will not only help us as curators and artists, but gives students the chance of showcasing to a professional clientele and displaying themselves as the new generation of modern art that is not constricted by being outside of London.
“This is letting us give something back to all our fellow students as we feel we’re quite privileged to be at the MTC and to have this opportunity.”
