Former Siemens CEO joins HVM Catapult Board of Directors

Carl Ennis led Siemens’ UK and Ireland operation with an annual business turnover in excess of £4bn and over 11,000 employees.

The former CEO of Siemens UK has joined the High Value Manufacturing (HVM) Catapult as a non-executive director, bringing over 40 years of experience in driving technology-led innovation across UK industry.

As a member of the HVM Catapult Board, Carl Ennis will provide scrutiny and oversight to the organisation’s pursuit of its strategic priorities for UK industry, including the clean energy transition, national security capability, healthy living and industrial sustainability.

Carl has spent the last 20 years in leadership positions at Siemens UK, including six years as CEO where he led the company’s UK and Ireland operation with an annual business turnover in excess of £4bn and more than 11,000 employees. He also represented the voice of industry on a number of panels, including the government’s Net Zero Council and Energy Efficiency Taskforce.

Carl brings valuable insight into the key enablers that drive economic growth, including scaling cutting-edge technology solutions, the industrial application of artificial intelligence, supply chain development and access to finance. As a former craft apprentice and trustee at Brighter Futures Learning Partnership Trust, Carl also understands the impact of new technologies on workforce requirements.

He replaces Frank Ludwig, CEO of Airbus Aerostructures GmbH, who is stepping down following the completion of his term as a Board member.

Steve Bagshaw CBE, HVM Catapult Chair, said:

Carl brings an exceptional combination of industrial leadership, technical expertise and passion for skills and innovation. His insight will be invaluable as we continue to help industry adopt new technologies, improve productivity and strengthen the UK’s global competitiveness.

My sincere thanks to Frank Ludwig who has provided unrivalled experience in driving industrial transformation alongside his understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing UK manufacturers.

Carl Ennis said:

I am privileged and excited to be able to offer my experience in support of the team at HVM Catapult and their goal to enable the delivery of the UK’s industrial strategy and deliver economic growth from industrial endeavour to all corners of the UK.

HVM Catapult has also announced changes to its executive leadership team as it sharpens its focus to deliver the government’s modern industrial strategy. Ian Malcomson, who joined HVM Catapult last month as Chief Finance Officer (CFO), brings considerable experience in leading complex, international organisations, including most recently as CFO at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.

Ian joins Katherine Bennett CBE, Chief Executive Officer, Lauren Flanagan, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, and Dr Lynne O’Hare, Chief Operations Officer, in the executive leadership team.
