Trailblazers – led by large and small employers – lead the way in implementing the reform of the Apprenticeship programmes in England. They are developing new apprenticeship standards and assessment approaches. The High Value Manufacturing Trailblazer Group comprises MTC, AMRC, NCC, Tata Steel, Delcam and Productiv. The group is now seeking feedback by 22nd August.

Apprenticeships are being reformed to ensure that they can meet the needs of the economy and employers for years to come.

The reforms are intended to:

Trailblazers have been drawn from all sectors of industry including rail, aerospace, automotive and food & drink.

High Value Manufacturing is also included in these Trailblazer reforms and has formed a representative group of industries who have the overall aim of producing a standard, or series of standards that represent the technologies that are being developed and applied in this important sector.

Over the last three months, the group has developed a standard for apprentices deployed in the High Value Manufacturing sector. This standard contains a core and options that apprentices can choose to follow and build a career in a valuable and rewarding profession.

The standard, covers three of the HVM specialisms; Composite manufacture, CNC machining and High Integrity Fabrication (HIF). More pathways will be added as the paper develops and broadens throughout the duration of the Trailblazer project.

In order to validate the standard, the working group are keen to hear from other organisations engaged in the world of High Value Manufacturing.

Your review of this standard is invited. It is vital that we ensure that your views and that of your organisation are reflected in the papers before they are submitted to government.

The standard and supporting documentation is uploaded onto this page for your perusal and comment. It would be appreciated if you could take a few moments to read and digest the information provided and then email your comments to the Trailblazer working group.

Comments can be submitted via the MTC apprentice inbox [email protected]

Your comments can be supportive; you can request further information or you can, of course, challenge our submission. Whatever the nature of your response, your input and feedback is vital.

Comments are invited by Friday 22nd August

Once the Government has approved the standard it will be logged on the National Apprenticeship website.

Recruitment against the standard will commence once all supporting documentation (e.g. assessment criteria, academic framework) have been completed.
