Design for manufacture is a term used to describe the process of designing products/parts/components in a way that optimises all the manufacturing functions (fabrication, assembly, test) as well as ensuring that design supports the optimisation of cost, quality and regulatory compliance.

All HVM Catapult centres have expertise and software to design a wide range of products/parts/components to industry standard as well as the capability to optimise design. The HVM Catapult also contributes to the evolvement of design theory to enable industry products to keep up with technology and to support the introduction of novel design concepts. A competitive edge in both methodology and implementation is being offered through the AMRC’s design & prototyping group. The AMRC, as well as other HVM Catapult centres, have the ability to assist in design for conventional and novel manufacture or complex system design and prototyping.
