The Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, part of the HVM Catapult, has been working with BAE Systems over the last 2 years to develop an automation cell to introduce efficiencies, synergies and significant cost savings in the manufacture of military aircraft.
The cell has been developed to a pre-production level through work carried out at the AMRC in conjunction with BAE Systems engineers. The project is proving very successful and has the potential for major cost savings. A robotic automation cell could cost just one-fifth of the current solution.
Other collaborative work includes the automatic application of adhesive for the reduction of cost from aircraft or UAV manufacture.
